Carefully plan your budget
When deciding on your budget make sure to keep in mind that there is a lot more than just the dress. You have the shoes, the veil, the alterations, the jewelry, the garter, and maybe even another dress for the reception. Make sure you take the time to plan out and budget for everything you need to complete your wedding-day look before you go searching for your dress.
Look at dresses beforehand
It is always a good idea to do a little bit of pre-shopping before shopping for your wedding gown. Having familiarity with designers the salon you are visiting carries and the styles you like will make finding the perfect dress much smoother. Even if you think your tastes are all over the board, the consultants will be able to use bits and pieces of each to find the right dress for you.
Know what makes you feel good
You want to find a wedding dress that gives you an immeasurable amount of confidence, and part of achieving that is highlighting your best features. If you don’t already know what you want to show off in your wedding gown, you can look to your every day clothes for help. What is your go-to favorite outfit? Why is it your favorite? Oftentimes consultants can apply the fits and styles of everyday clothes to wedding dresses.
Carefully pick who will go with you
Anyone who has watched an episode of Say Yes to the Dress knows how easy it is for an entourage to sabotage an appointment. Brides are easily swept up into the politics of weddings and invite way too many people. You have to look out for yourself and only bring the people you know will help you. If you have never been shopping with them before, or wouldn’t take them on a regular shopping date, shopping for a wedding dress with them is not the place to start. If you are worried about hurting the feelings’ of friends and family, invite them to the fittings after you have chosen and ordered your dress, that way they are still included.
